Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine results pages (SERPs). DA scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater ranking potential.
Domain Authority is calculated based on:
- Number and quality of backlinks pointing to the domain
- Link equity of linking domains
- Overall site quality signals
- Content authority indicators
Important things to understand about DA:
- It's a relative metric, best used for comparison
- It's not used by Google directly in rankings
- New sites typically start with very low DA
- DA is logarithmic - improving from 70 to 80 is harder than 20 to 30
While DA measures traditional SEO strength, GEO Score measures AI visibility. Both metrics are valuable for understanding different aspects of search presence. Many brands with high DA also see strong AI visibility, as authority signals influence both.
